Potain MDTL 1109 Crane for Rent: A 48-Hour Emergency (and What It Taught Me)

Twenty-seven phone calls. Eleven trailers. One delivery window that closed at 7:00 on a Sunday morning. That's what it took to get a Potain MDTL 1109 crane for rent to a jobsite last September—and I hope I never have to run an emergency like it again.

I work for a tower crane dealer and rental company, and I'm the person you talk to when something has to happen faster than normal. In my role, I've handled a fair number of rush orders. This one stands out because finding the crane wasn't the hard part. The hard part was that we started looking three weeks later than we should have.

A Normal Morning With a Self-Erecting Crane

That Wednesday started quietly. I quoted a Potain self-erecting crane for a contractor building a two-story parking garage. That's the kind of rental my team handles without drama. Finding the Machine

The Assembly

But I would also ask the client to sit down with us afterward and review what went wrong. Rush orders are sometimes unavoidable. More often, they're a symptom of a decision being delayed.

Prevention isn't about being slow. It's about looking at the actual lift plan before the crane is needed. A load chart is a cheap thing to read. An emergency crane move is an expensive thing to organize.
